ONBOARD CARNIVAL SPLENDOR

Matt Sorum speaks through the drums.
After watching Ringo Starr drum with The Beatles on Ed Sullivan, Sorum became entranced by the drums and had to pick them up.
By age 14, the Long Beach, California native was performing on the Sunset Strip at the Whisky with his band The Prophecy. He played with Tori Amos and drummed on multiple recording sessions, then joined The Cult.
In 1990 Matt caught the attention of Slash and Duff McKagan, leading him to join Guns N’ Roses. Use Your Illusion 1 & 2 with Matt on drums was released, and a three-year GN’R tour followed. GN’R garnered three Grammy nominations. Matt was inducted into The Rock N Roll Hall of Fame with Guns N’ Roses in 2013.
Moving on from GN’R, Sorum started producing, but drums always beckoned him. He was in the studio again with McKagan and Slash. The three shared a special chemistry, so they founded Velvet Revolver. With Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots singing, Velvet Revolver released two albums—the multi-platinum selling #1 debut Contraband, and Libertad in 2007. World tours, three Grammy nominations, and a Grammy win for “Slither” followed. Matt has also released two solo albums, Hollywood Zen and Straosphere, and devotes time to his non-profit Adopt the Arts (www.adoptthearts.org), whose mission is to keep music alive in schools.
Always looking to the future and wanting to challenge himself, Matt set about assembling his own supergroup of musicians he admires and loves to play with, and Kings of Chaos was born.
Kings of Chaos enjoys a mind-boggling array of rotating guest members which has included Steven Tyler (Aerosmith), Billy Idol, Robin Zander (Cheap Trick), Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top), Slash (Guns N’ Roses), Joe Elliott (Def Leppard), Ann Wilson (Heart), Gilby Clarke (Guns N’ Roses), Nuno Bettencourt (Extreme), Corey Taylor (Slipknot and Stone Sour), Dee Snider (Twisted Sister), Steve Stevens (Billy Idol), and Myles Kennedy (Alter Bridge, Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators), to name a few. These guys would all rather go kill it on stage with their friends in Kings of Chaos than spend downtime from their ‘day jobs’.
KoC always delivers a badass lineup, and pretty well ensures you won’t see the same show every night. Where can you see a show packed with massive hits like “Barracuda”, “Rebel Yell”, “Sex Type Thing”, “Sharp Dressed Man,” “Paradise City” and “Sanctuary” performed by the original artists? That puts KoC at the pinnacle of the greatest song list in Rock n Roll history.
Kings of Chaos has toured in the U.S., Canada, South Africa, and South America, and will continue to rock for the foreseeable future.
What do the members have to say about Kings of Chaos?
Billy Gibbons calls KoC "A collision of enthusiasm."
Slash: "(this is) a group of guys with the same rock ‘n’ roll spirit getting together to have a good time."
And Matt? Pure and simple: "A celebration of Rock n Roll."
There’s no shortage of A-listers waiting their turn to play with Kings of Chaos.
